Sarah Schira of Imagined Landscapes will be visiting our booth during Knit City and teaching a few classes at the store the week following, including an introduction to the knitted gnomes that have hit the knitting world like a storm over the past year.

Here are three of Sarah’s special workshops that we are pleased to present:

GNO FUN LIKE GNOME FUN

Knit a little gnome in a three hour workshop and learn all sorts of tricks including 2-colour i-cord, bobble noses, stuffing toys, and more.

REQUIRED SKILLS: Students should be familiar with knitting in the round. Instructions will be given for knitting with DPNs but students who are familiar with magic loop or knitting on 2 circular needles can adapt the pattern to knit as they prefer.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • US 5 / 3.75 mm DPNs (double pointed needles), or size needed to make a firm fabric that stuffing won’t show through – I suggest 2 sizes smaller than you would use for a worsted weight sweater.
  • Darning needle
  • Removable stitch marker
  • Gnome kits can be purchased for $15 or please bring the following:
    • Colour 1 (Hat): 10 yd. / 9 m; approximately 5 g in worsted weight yarn
    • Colour 2 (Body): 12 yd. /11 m ; approximately 5 g in worsted weight yarn
    • Colour 3 (Beard/nose/hands): 7 yd. / 6 m; approximately 4 g in worsted weight yarn
    • approx. 1/8 C poly pellets/aquarium gravel/dried beans
    • fist-sized amount of roving/polyfill stuffing

All materials can be purchased at Baaad Anna’s Yarn Store 15 minutes prior to the start of class, or bring your own.

DATE: Wednesday October 9th, from 6:00-9:00pm

COST: $45 (+tax)

Minimum 3 participants and max 15.

CHOOSING COLOURS

Course description: Learn how to choose yarns so that you love the finished object – from understanding the mood and look you crave to experimenting with colours so that you can mix and match with confidence for single-colour and multi-colour projects. Students will leave with an arsenal of techniques to test colour combinations before they even start a swatch. For knitters and crocheters.

REQUIRED SKILLS: None! Come in fresh and bushy tailed!

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Cell phone/digital camera (something with a black and white filter)
  • 5-10 different colours of yarn, any weight, about 5g or a pingpong ball-sized amount. Note: You will be placing these in a communal pile for all students to use during the colour play portion of our class. You can retrieve the yarns afterwards if you wish.

DATE: Monday October 7th, from 6:00-8:00pm

COST: $35 (+tax)

Minimum 3 participants and max 10.

LEARN DPNs (Double Pointed Needles)

Want to know how to knit in the round with DPNs? It won’t always feel like wrestling a hedgehog!  We will work on a little coffee sleeve project to learn to feel comfortable using DPNs. An excellent first class if you want to take the evening gnome class with Sarah.

REQUIRED SKILLS: Comfortable with knitting and purling.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • US 5/ 3.75 mm DPNs
  • 15g worsted weight yarn
  • Darning needle

All materials can be purchased at Baaad Anna’s Yarn Store 15 minutes prior to the start of class, or bring your own.

DATE: Wednesday October 9th, from 10:00am-Noon

COST: $35 (+tax)

Minimum 3 participants and max 10.
